Overview
One platform, four kinds of space, two devices
I designed the end-to-end interaction experience for a multi-user VR collaboration platform, delivered on PICO 4 with a companion mobile app.
My work covered the whole experience: who it was for, how people move between spaces, how they use their hands, what they hear, and which jobs belong in the headset versus on the phone. I authored the full interaction design specification that guided the design and development teams.
UNDER NDA
Visuals are not shown due to client confidentiality.
Happy to walk through my process, decisions and artifacts in conversation.
What I did
From people to a specification the whole team built from
STEP 1
Personas
Who uses it, and in which roles
STEP 2
Experience maps
A working day, before and inside VR
STEP 3
User flows
Moving between every space
STEP 4
Interaction system
Hand gestures and controllers
STEP 5
Prototype
Key spaces built in ShapesXR
STEP 6
Specification
The full interaction design spec
Spatial structure
A shared hub, with rooms for every kind of work
I mapped user flows across four kinds of space, so people always know where they are and how to get back.
Shared common space
Where everyone arrives. Find colleagues, see what’s happening, and head to a room.
Themed meeting rooms
Live meetings, whiteboarding and screen sharing.
Private offices
Personal space for focused or one-to-one work.
The lab
Hands-on space for exploring and building together.
Two devices, one experience
What belongs in the headset, and what belongs on the phone
I decided which jobs each device should own, so neither tried to do everything.
Companion mobile app

Interaction system
Hands, controllers, interface and sound, designed as one system
Hand-gesture interactions
A gesture set people can use without controllers, for natural, low-effort collaboration.
Controller interactions
A matching controller mapping, so every action works whichever input someone prefers.
Interaction library & UI guidelines
Reusable patterns and rules for spatial UI, keeping every space consistent.
Sound design
Audio that signals presence, feedback and movement between spaces.
