TD Bank · One Vanderbilt · WebAR

A cardboard skyscraper that comes alive in AR

People build One Vanderbilt with their own hands, point a phone at it, and watch the tower celebrate in TD green.

    Fold-it-yourself cardboard One Vanderbilt

The idea

A tower you build, then bring to life

The client’s idea: a cardboard One Vanderbilt that people fold together. Once it stands, a phone camera turns it into the stage for a TD Bank celebration.

01 Fold

Assemble the printed cardboard net into the tower.

02 Scan

Point a phone at the black geometric patterns.

03 Celebrate

A blimp, a taxi, fireworks and a green crown light appear.

What I did

Everything that made the paper tower feel like TD Bank

As the only XR designer, I owned the branded layer and worked with the developers until it ran right on the cardboard.

  1. Branded 3D assets

The TD blimp, the NYC taxi and other branded pieces

  2. Crown light

Used the top patterns to place the green TD light

  3. Firework celebration

Animated in After Effects, exported as a spritesheet

  4. Developer sync

Worked with the devs until tracking and effects ran as intended

3 beats

Fold, scan, celebrate: one physical-to-digital story

1 handoff

Effects delivered ready to code, as a spritesheet

Activation

Patterns that start the show

The black geometric patterns printed on the model are the image target and plane tracker, so the AR locks onto the tower itself.

2

Tracking lock

Once found, TD green appears on the base of the tower.

Crown light

I used the top patterns to place the green light plane, recreating the TD Bank light on the crown.

Branded assets

Turning a paper model into a TD Bank scene in New York

TD blimp

Floats alongside the tower, carrying the TD logo at eye level with the crown.

NYC taxi

Drives along the street-map base, grounding the model in the city.

The payoff

A celebration, built with the developers

The fireworks burst over the tower once the scene is complete. I made them and handed them over ready to code.

What this project shows

Designing where the physical and digital meet

Physical-to-digital design

A printed object became the trigger, the anchor and the stage for AR.

Brand in 3D space

TD green, the blimp and the taxi turned a paper model into a TD Bank scene.

Production-ready handoff

Effects delivered as spritesheets, then tuned with developers on the real build.
